Lily Su (Head Teacher and Director)

In 1987, Lily graduated with a Bachelor of Music (Piano) at XingHai Conservatorium of Music. During her 4 years of study, she regularly performed with string, vocal students and teachers as a piano accompanist. After completing her degree, she became a piano lecturer and accompanist at Guangzhou Music and Dancing Academy School as well as being employed as a piano improvisation lecturer by the Department of Education in Guangzhou. She has learnt piano from well renowned professors around the world such as; the Head of the Piano Association of GuangDong, Quguo Li at XingHai Conservatory; studied piano with Renate Schorler in Berlin, Germany in 1992; and also studied piano pedagogy under Dr. Paul Rickard-ford and Elizabeth Green at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music. Currently, she is also a piano tutor for the Department of Music at UNSW.

​As a teacher, Lily has more than 30 years of professional piano teaching experience:

- ​Her students from beginners to 8th grade are consistently rewarded A and A+.

- Has over 40 students who have passed AmusA and LmusA with a numerous students receiving Distinctions.

- 3 of her students were chosen to perform at the Opera House at multiple Encores chosen from 6000 students each year. 

- Her students have won a multitude of 1st and 2nd prizes at numerous piano competitions in Australia

- Over 12 students including her two sons, Monty and Verdy, have won over $200,000 worth of scholarships to prestigious schools.


Janice Lai 

Bachelor of Music and Bachelor of Engineering at the University of New South Wales, where she is a member of the UNSW Orchestra and String Ensemble.

Janice has achieved her LmusA in piano, AmusA in violin. During her time in North Sydney Girls High School, Janice was a member of the orchestra, string ensemble, and musical productions, and played with the Sydney Youth Orchestras from 2011 to 2014. She became the Music Captain in 2014 and was later nominated for the HSC Music Encore showcase in 2015

​Janice has placed in serveral competitions, including 1st in the 2014 Sutherland Shire Eisteddfod, and 1st in the 2013 Inner West Eisteddfod.

As a teacher, Janice's lessons are well-tailored for each student, and are fun and engaging for students of all ages. She focuses on building a strong foundation for beginner students and further develops musical and technical aspects for more advanced students through a wide repertoires.

Verdy Guo (Piano and Cello)

Verdy began his musical training at the age of 3 on the piano and later cello at the age of 6. 

Going into high school, he received music scholarships from prestigious schools such as Sydney Grammar and Trinity Grammar School. He performed regularly in concerts and drama productions at school and in public as a soloist, chamber musician, and as principle cellist of Trinity Grammar’s Symphony Orchestra in 2014. He has performed in many charity concerts as well, most notably as a soloist with Australian classical concert pianist, Roger Woodward. During his time in high school, he also won numerous first place prizes in piano, cello and chamber music at Trinity and in Eisteddfods all around Sydney including Sydney Eisteddfod, St George Eisteddfod and Sutherland Shire Eisteddfod.

After winning the Concerto Competition at Trinity, he was also elected to perform Rachmaninoff’s Second Piano Concerto 1st Mvt with Trinity Grammar’s Symphony Orchestra at Angel Place City Recital Hall and in his HSC Music Extension examination. He achieved full marks, placing him 1st in the State in his year to which he was chosen to perform as soloist at Encore 2014 at the Sydney Opera House. He completed his high school career as a Prefect, Music Captain and a Trinity Scholar.

He went on to receive The John and Dorothy Vimpani Pianoforte Scholarship valued at $24,000 to study a Bachelor of Performance (Piano) at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music. During his university studies, he received another scholarship to attend Estivo; European Chamber Music Summer School, at Conservatorio di Verona in Italy. He worked rigorously with professors and teachers from “Hanns Eisler” Hochschule fur Musik in Berlin and FRANZ LISZT University of Music in Weimer. Lecturers included Prof. Eberhard Feltz, Wayne Foster Smith (graduated from Juilliard) and Christian Wilm Muller. During his stay in Verona (Italy), Verdy performed in numerous public concerts, masterclasses and even for the Mayor of Verona.

Verdy was studying Bachelor of Performance (Piano) under Dr. Paul Rickard-Ford before transferring majors to Bachelor of Performance (Cello). He is currently studying cello under Georg Pederson at the Sydney Conservatorium.

As a teacher Verdy is extremely passionate in sharing his musical knowledge with his students. He is a very dedicated and patient person who understands that every student learns at different paces and in various ways. Because of this, he has a meticulous yet versatile teaching style to suit all the needs of the student. 

Peter Smith (Clarinet)

Peter received his Bachelor in clarinet performance in 2009, and his Masters in clarinet performance in 2012, both from the Sydney Conservatorium, where he worked as a musicology tutor from 2011-2016. Highlights of his performance career include engagements as a soloist with the Balmain Sinfonia and Strathfield Symphony Orchestra, performing recitals for the Australasian Saxophone and Clarinet Conference in 2013, a well-received chamber tour of Paris and London in 2011, and recording a jazz trio album in 2013. He has also performed or recorded with the Sydney Chamber Opera, Wollongong Symphony Orchestra, Sydney Opera and Ballet Orchestra, Kammerklang, Halcyon, and Ensemble Offspring. He is also currently working as a clarinet lecturer at the Australian Institute of Music.

From 2014 onwards, Peter has increasingly devoted his time to producing covers of video game music for his Youtube channel (https://www.youtube.com/user/SoUnDoLe). He has produced innumerable covers of his own, and collaborated with dozens of international VGM musicians, appearing on numerous albums by Materia, Gamelark, and Pixel Mixers. He has appeared in two albums which have charted on bandcamp: 'Undertale: Purple Side' in 2016 (reaching no. 1), and 'Johto Legends' in 2018. In 2016, he released a solo album of covers of 8-bit RPG Town Themes called 'Winds of Home', using Electric Wind Instruments, and in 2018 will release an EP of jazz VGM arrangements called 'Café VGM'.

As a teacher, Peter strongly believes in equipping his students with the technical facility and musical understanding to make wise autonomous decisions as performers. He encourages his students to treat musical study not merely as a technical exercise, but an avenue for personal storytelling and self-expression. 

Gianna Cheung (Flute)

Gianna has been a part of the musical world since she was only 3 years old. She began learning the piano at the age of 5 and in the following year discovered a natural affinity for the flute. She has since achieved AMusA diplomas for both instruments and is a seasoned soloist and accomplished ensemble musician, having performed with over 36 ensembles and orchestras throughout her career including the Royal Concertgebouw, London Symphony and Australian Opera and Ballet orchestras. She has extensive experience in classical music and has also performed a vast range of styles in numerous contexts such as pop music, jazz and her favourites - musical theatre and film music. To complement her performance skills, Gianna also has a strong foundation and broad understanding of musical theory and history.

Gianna began teaching whilst she was a student at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music and has had over 3 years of experience teaching piano, flute and music theory. She enjoys sharing her passion for music and hopes to instil the same love and appreciation for music in all her students. She believes that every student has their own unique path in music to follow and always tries to work according to each student’s individual needs. In Gianna's lessons, the joy of learning is the primary focus and having fun is just as important as developing excellent technique.
